The most retweeted Japanese tweet of 2012

Today, Twitter announced this year’s Golden Tweets—the most retweeted messages of 2012. Not unsurprisingly, Barack Obama took the first spot and Justin Bieber and Team GB were not far behind.

Kouichi Yamadera - yamachanoha

What’s more unexpected, however, is that that the 5th place was taken by a Japanese tweet!

Kouichi Yamadera is a prominent Japanese voice actor famous for many anime roles so when he announced that he registered for marriage with actress Rie Tanaka, it became the most popular tweet from Japan this year with over 68,000 retweets and 6,000 favorites.

“…I would like to announce here: I, Koichi Yamadera, have married Ms. Rie Tanaka … I am really happy to have met such a great partner and have our lives come together. We made up our minds to respect each other, help each other and build a home full of smiles…”
